The Fishing

The area just off the Fylde coast and into Morecambe bay provides for excellent fixed ground fishing.

Summer

The summer session generally starts in May coinciding with the first peel of shore crabs, when Smoothhound and Sea Bass can be readily caught.  The arrival in late May/early June of Mackerel heralds the arrival of large numbers of Tope, which can be caught less than 1/2 mile from the shore.  General boat fishing tends to bring Plaice, Dabs, Thornback ray, Pollock, Herring, Whiting, summer Coddling  and the occasional Black Bream.

Winter

Cod is the main stay of winter fishing generally arriving in mid October and staying until February/March.  Recent catches have been poor but many small coddling are returning.  Some of the better known marks are within 1.5 miles of the launch site, some others much less than that.
